Neil had a day off on Thursday and since we had friends house sitting in Charleston, we took advantage of the free time and drove a couple hours north to stay in Charleston for the night. Neil wanted to try out a new brew pub called Edmund's Oast, so the four of us made reservations - ate good food, drank good beer.

One of the highlights of the trip was waking up early on Friday morning and exploring the grounds of Middleton Place, which Rhi and Drew had recommended. Middleton Place feels like America's answer to the grand homes I imagine sweeping across Europe's landscape - geometric gardens and picturesque scenery along the river. Azaleas are in full bloom along the coast this time of year, so when we visited the hills were covered in red and white blooms.

Arthur Middleton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, was born at Middleton Place and spent his last years there. Most of the home was destroyed during the Civil War (all but the guest wing, which is available for tours), but luckily the family buried many of its treasures in the yard to keep them safe from Union forces. One statue - the Wood Nymph - was discovered later in pristine condition. Today, it faces the gardens.

We had made lunch plans at Xiao Bao Biscuit (so good!) so we headed out of Middleton Place around noon, just when alligators started to swim into view. Spot the alligator above?

Introducing new styles for spring! Lots of Japanese-inspired wrap details and loose, origami shapes sewn with madder-dyed silk, organic oatmeal linen, and bamboo rayon, plus a limited edition silk robe in terra cotta. Hand-formed ceramic necklaces are coming, too. So excited for this one.

All pieces will be available in the shop on Monday, March 31st. Thanks to Drew, Rhi, and Ashley for being awesome!
